Quick Indian spiced chickpea chaat tossed with tangy cherry tomato passata, toasted cumin, lemon juice, and crunchy jalapeño crisps.
This vibrant chickpea chaat comes together in minutes for a savory, tangy, and deeply aromatic side dish. Method
- 1
Rinse the organic chickpeas thoroughly in a colander, drain well, and pat dry with a clean kitchen towel. Transfer the chickpeas to a medium mixing bowl.
- 2
Warm the avocado oil in a small skillet over medium heat for 1 minute. Add the organic cumin seeds and toast, swirling constantly, until aromatic, slightly darkened, and gently crackling, about 2 minutes.
- 3
Remove the skillet from the heat immediately. Stir the garam masala into the warm oil for 30 seconds to release its fragrant essential oils without scorching.
- 4
Pour the spiced oil mixture over the chickpeas. Add the organic cherry tomato passata and salt, tossing well until every chickpea is glossy and coated.
- 5
Gently fold in the crushed jalapeño cassava strips immediately before scooping into shallow serving bowls so they retain their crisp texture.
Assemble the spiced chickpea base ahead of time and store chilled for up to two days. Always wait to stir in the crushed jalapeño cassava strips right before serving to keep them shatteringly crisp.
