Method

  1. 1

Pour the water into a medium pot fitted with a steamer basket, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and bring to a rolling boil over high heat, about 3 minutes.

  2. 2

Add the peeled, cubed sweet potatoes to the steamer basket, cover tightly, and reduce the heat to medium. Steam for 10 to 11 minutes until the cubes are completely fork-tender.

  3. 3

While the potatoes steam, melt the ghee in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir in the pure maple syrup, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt, heating gently for 1 minute until aromatic and warm, then remove from heat.

  4. 4

Transfer the hot, tender sweet potatoes to a warm mixing bowl. Pour the warmed spiced maple ghee evenly over the top.

  5. 5

Mash the mixture thoroughly with a potato masher for about 1 to 2 minutes until uniform, creamy, and velvety smooth. Spoon into a shallow serving bowl and serve immediately.

Tip

For an ultra-silky texture, pass the steamed cubes through a potato ricer before folding in the warm maple ghee. Leftovers keep well in an airtight container refrigerated for up to 4 days.
